Anaerobic
Digestion
process
wastewater
generally
contains
Ammoniacal-Nitrogen,
dissolved
organic
compounds
and
other
contaminants
at
elevated
levels
that
would
typically
exceed
the
trade
effluent
consent
limits
imposed
by
receiving
water
companies,
thus
necessitating
either
export
from
site
via
road
tanker
or
pre-treatment
prior
to
discharge into the sewer network.
The
economic
viability
of
pre-treatment
is
determined
on
a
site
specific
basis
but
as
a
rule,
the
capital
cost
of
constructing
a
plant
should
be
recouped
within
a
2-year
timeframe
and
when
operating
costs
are
considered,
the
savings
over
export
via
road
tanker
are
considerable.
Aerobic
Biodegradation
is
the
most
cost-effective
form
of
pre-
treatment
in
which
Ammoniacal
Nitrogen
and
dissolved
organic
compounds
are
oxidised,
producing
effluent
that
can,
in
most
cases,
comply
with
trade
effluent
consent
parameters for discharge to sewer without further treatment.
